The Family Hub Fridge by Samsung has an awkward name and a high price, but its smart, has an elegant design with claver features that really makes you want one.
Despite a hefty price tag of around €5000 the Family Hub Fridge is packed with really good ideas which are useful, as opposed to gimmicks in previous models.
The Samsung Family Hub comes with a 21.5-inch, 1080p touch screen on the right side door and is powered by Samsung’s Tizen operating system. Given the styling of the buttons below the display it rather looks like an oversized android phone but unlike the previous models the screen fits nicely into the door and doesn’t look tacked on.
Just like you would on a normal fridge, you can post notes to your family, share reminders and calendar events or display art and photos and more. With such a large screen you could even use it as a TV as there is the connectivity plus a built in speaker which previous models lacked. So you can watch your favourite programs while you cook and clean in the kitchen.
The coolest part however is that there are three cameras inside the fridge which take a picture every time the fridge is closed. Together with the WiFi feature it means that you can check at any time what you have in the fridge no matter where you are via the app.
You can also drag and drop timestamps in order to keep track of how long things have been standing there which gives you an idea of when it’s time to throw out the OJ. If you don’t fancy going out to do the groceries, you could always get the fridge to order what you need as it comes with a MasterCard shopping app if your local supermarket provides the service.
The fridge is a four door model with the top two doors being for refrigerated items and the bottom two for frozen items. If you don’t need all that freezing space, then Samsung’s FlexZone feature lets you switch between freezing and refrigeration to suit your family.
As mentioned the Samsung Family Hub will come with a hefty 5000€ price tag when it becomes available in spring. It will be available in counter depth and full depth models, in stainless steel and black stainless colour options.
