BODEGAS PACO & LOLA, DOP RÍAS BAIXAS
Available at Carrefour, priced at 5·99€
I promise it’s not just the label that made me buy this wine – though you have to admit, it is a bit cute!
I spent a most enjoyable weekend in Galicia’s, DO Rías Baixas, judging their 2010 Vintage white wines. During our time there we were invited to visit Bodegas Paco & Lola, which was a super experience. I can honestly say that all of their wines are top examples of wines made from the wonderfully aromatic and oh-so-fruity Albariño grape variety.
Lolo, is their young wine. Made from their most recently planted vineyards, it is a 100% Albariño wine, which is full of the innocence and vivacity of youth! And proud of it!
It’s a dry white wine, fruit orientated, which immediately endears it to youngsters. However, hold the wine in the mouth a little and you’ll taste its true dryness coming through – hence a catch-all wine!
There is a slight (it’s more distinctive in wines made from older vines) white flower nose, perhaps a white rose, rather than the jasmine and honeysuckle richness of more venerable vines. On the palate there are some citrus notes, plus, again a little shy, a faint note of white peach – typical of the variety.
Drink this wine for fun! It will be wonderful also with prawns and grilled white fish as well as salads.
Enjoy!
PS also look out for other wines from this bodega – all really good quality!
