Worried about protecting your skin in the sun? Don’t worry – there’s an app for that!
It’s not safe to get complacent about skincare if you’re visiting or living in a hot country like Spain – if you’re going outside, you need to protect yourself with a high enough SPF. However many of us don’t bother putting sunblock on if we’re just popping to the shops, driving, or sitting in the shade.
Using a combination of a stick-on sin patch and an app downloaded onto your smartphone, My UV Patch will tell you how much sun exposure you’ve had and make recommendations about how to better care for your skin.
How does My UV Patch work?
You wear the patch on your skin in a place that usually catches the sun, such as on your bare arm or the back of your hand. It’s very thin, hypoallergenic and very water resistant, so once it’s on it shouldn’t annoy or distract you. If and when you put sunblock on, you should put it over the patch as though it’s your skin.
You then scan the patch using the app on your phone. The patch contains photosensitive dyes. By looking at how much the colour has changed, it will sense how much sun exposure you’ve had and give you personalised recommendations.
Make better sunblock decisions!
The patch itself obviously won’t protect you from sun exposure. The idea is to make us more aware of how many rays we’re actually catching, even if we think we’re safe in the shade or that we don’t need sunblock because we’ll only be outside for a short time.
It’s ideal for keeping children safe, as you can scan regularly to check if the UV levels are getting harmful in real-time. The app can also be set up to give sunblock alerts when it’s time to reapply.
