Entrepreneurs in Madrid have launched an app called UVI24 to help pet owners find emergency veterinary assistance in Spain. All responsible pet owners will have a local vet they know and trust, but this app could be invaluable in animal emergencies away from home.
When you phone in your emergency, the operators will check what kind of animal you have and what the problem is. The app will then ‘geo-locate’ you through your smartphone, and then identify the best and closest place to take your pet. After the call is over they will send you a message with the address of the vet. Meanwhile, they will contact the vet and tell them you are on your way, so all you have to worry about is caring for your pet and getting them to help as quickly as possible.
The app is still growing, and doesn’t currently have links in every single town or region. It started in Madrid so naturally has a greater number of vets registered to the service in that area. However it’s worth keeping an eye on it as it grows – every moment you can save finding a vet could make all the difference.
