It’s not always easy to get out and make friends, especially if you’ve just arrived in a new country. There are plenty of apps for meeting new people, like Tinder or Plenty of Fish, but if you’re looking for friendship and not love then these definitely aren’t right for you! A friendship-forming app called ‘Patook’ is quickly gaining followers in many countries and cities, including some areas in Spain.
Once you’ve set up your profile you’re free to start looking for matches around you. Just like with a dating app, you’ll be shown a picture, approximate location, and a brief bio of the person and then get to choose whether to swipe left (for no thank you) or right (so you can start chatting on the app and see if you get along.) It’s ‘no flirting’ policy is also very strict – it can even detect if messages are getting flirtatious and will stop them from sending!
While there are plenty of people on Patook, it isn’t yet as popular as the big-name apps like Tinder. This means that you might have more success either if you’re in a big city or if you set your catchment area quite wide.
If you want to make new friends using just your mobile phone in Spain, give Patook a go. It’s free to set up and use, so there’s no commitment if you change your mind or don’t find any matches nearby. You can download it from your smartphone’s app store.
(Note – when we tried out the app it was a bit temperamental and prone to freezing, but Patook say that was because they had just a big influx of new users – so hopefully if you download it, it will work properly!)
