The life of internet goes back about 40 years, when it all started on the official date of 1st January, 1983.
Dial up
What was known as Dial up and the speed of 56 Kbps or 0.056 Mbps, your computer basically made a phone call in to a server that connected to the internet.
Fast forward to to Fibre and in a very short time you can now receive speeds of 1 GB or 1024 Mbps or from dial up days would be 1,000,000 Kbps which is a lot more than the 56 Kbps we started at.
Many People do not really think about internet, just if they are connected or not. Nowadays, it´s something that is just there, maybe in the air similar to your mobile. In reality this kind of connection only accounts for approximately 1% of interactions.
The Life of Internet has become our way of life, for many and not just a luxury but a connection to family, friends, work, inspiration, the latest trend or a recipe, plus much more.
Our daily lives are becoming more interactive with the internet. Gadgets such as kitchen appliances that can have your dinner ready for when you walk in the door or arrange the weekly shop of grocery´s that can be delivered to the door. OK, you still have to put it away in cupboards.
A record of our daily life with video´s and photo´s forever saved.
You Will be Amazed
Just take a few minutes to realise what it is all about, you will be amazed!
In reality it is a network of ultra thin cables that go, not only under your feet and through the ground but also underwater, connecting countries, world wide.
Just to give you an idea 380 underwater cables are in operation around the world, spanning a length of over 1.2 million kilometers (745,645 miles). (to date!)
That´s enough to go to the moon and back plus around the world a few times!
Undersea Cables
97% of all intercontinental data is transferred through these cables
Some cables are laid as deep as 25,000 feet below the surface of the ocean, meaning they’re subject to damage from natural disasters, corrosion, fishers, and even shark bites.
Cables are connected to massive data storage units that are so powerful, they’re capable of recalling any piece of information at a moment’s notice.
In 2018 an estimated 18 Zettabytes (Bytes¨are the measure of data size (i.e. MB) and ¨bits are the measure of speed (i.e. Mb))
1 ZB | = 8000000000000 gigabits (Gbit) |
Just imagine what we have used in the last 12 months, with more of us connecting and keeping in touch with Family and friends, plus working from home.
It is simply mind boggling!
Every second, millions of emails, clicks, and searches happen via the world wide web.
