Roaming changes for UK users in 2022 with 3 of the 4 major UK mobile network operators have announced the return of roaming charges.
These providers believe that this will create a fairer market for clients that do not roam and therefore no longer require them to cover the costs for roaming.
Others believe that this will mean that the more money conscious of us will live with the inconvenience of not been able to roam, while others will see it as a cost to having your holiday.
What to expect
Introducing charges of between £2 – £5 daily, allowing you to then use your contracted calls and data usage when outside of the UK.
Some providers are offering packages, proving you with a pass for 15 days or up to a 30 day pass, to use your calls and data but again most of these will have a daily charge.
A sim only deal may not be active for roaming and only allow emergency calls to be made.
With some of the more expensive plans you may find that you can roam at no extra charge but best to speak with your UK provider first.
It does not stop there
Extra charges while roaming is just one part, you may also find that you have a ¨Fair Usage Policy¨on the amount of time you spend abroad. This means you cannot take a contract with a provider in one country and use all year round in another.
You may also find that your data limit is cut, for example your package is 20GB per month but when roaming you have a limit of 12GB. You are then charged, approximately £3 for every GB over which could see you incurring high costs.
