Home security systems are great but they don’t’ really protect what’s inside your home and they’re not exactly portable. You can’t take them with you to a restaurant or coffee shop to protect your laptop while you queue for coffee.
Sensor 1 by Metasensor can do that and a fair bit more. Metasensor want to use their sensors to change the way we protect our possessions as well as tracking them.
The device is small and octagonal shaped like with an accelerometer, gyroscopic stabilizer and magnetometer which all work together to track the orientation of the article it is attached to in three dimensions. What these technologies do is alert Sensor 1 if the object has been moved and even how. It has three LED lights, Bluetooth connectivity and a small siren.
When sensors detect that your article has been moved it plays a sound and flashes lights and sends an alert to your smartphone. The sensitivity can be set via the app and detects movement in any direction. The sensor is automatically armed when you walk away from your backpack to order your cup of coffee if it is configured for high sensitivity to movement.
Metesensor have seen interest in the application from people who rent their homes on AirBnB. They just place Sensor-1 on the items that they don’t want people to touch and get alerts if their personal possessions are moved.
Sensing technology goes far beyond the home and personal possessions, Metasensor is releasing API’s and a software base called Aletha which can be trained to detect specific kinds of movement as well as trace the path of your possessions through 3D space. This in turn can send a message to the police station when an officer unholsters his weapon or to track medical staff in hospitals.
The Sensor 1 is available on Indie GoGo for around €100 for one sensor or €200 for three.
