When we think about the Samsung brand, we conjure up images of phones, televisions, audio systems…a electronics giant! What we don’t consider is what else the technology company has built up in it’s huge empire.
Did you know that Samsung also runs a fancy hotel in Korea? Or that the brand builds boats? And makes high-end men’s clothing? The reality is that Samsung is involved in a huge amount of businesses that we are unaware of.
Now one of the biggest conglomerates in South Korea, the Samsung Group owns both Samsung and it’s sister company Samsung C&T. Samsung has brought us the likes of a smart belt, suit and golf shirt as well as bags, workout gear and a solar powered bag that will charge your galaxy device in 4 hours!
In some secret spy move the Smart Suit has an enlarged button with grey markings that acts as a remote device that can give an order to your Samsung phone simply by swiping the phone over the button. Great for putting your phone into ‘silent mode’ when heading into a meeting.
The button also doubles up as a fancy lapel pin and can be configured via the app that goes with it to share contact information with other people’s phones in the same way. It’s like carrying an e-business card, so you’ll always have one with you.
The Smart Suit is from the family of Samsung wearables, which also includes the Body Compass – an athletic tank top and pants that via sensors in the material of the clothing can easily measure your heart rate, stance and body fat levels. The only thing that gives them away as different is the cap size metal nubs which hide the processor and battery….oh, and the fact that they can’t be washed – hand washing only – yuk!!
On the up (and rather smelly) side, the app that accompanies the Body Compass clothing is like having a personal training monitor. As well as real time analysis and feedback on your workout, the app also detects exactly what type of exercise you are doing and counts your reps for you as well as detecting when you have rested for too long to get you moving again.
With other useful, if not slightly strange gadgets such as The Welt, a belt which adjust to your stomach size after eating a big meal, or the ‘Sol’ bag, a small laptop sized bag with inbuilt charging panels that charges your device while you are out and about, it shows how Samsung is constantly evolving and thinking outside the box in an ever-changing market place where innovation is key.
