We might think we know everything to know about Facebook, but did you know……
– Facebook has made it so easy so air one’s dirty washing in public that in 2011, it was cited in more than a third of divorce filings! UK-based legal firm Divorce Online did a survey which stated the figures, which even if it’s not completely accurate, with more than 8 trillion users, that’s still a big fat chunk of evidence to be found on this platform of social media.
– You can browse Facebook upside down and in 70 different languages that include English (Pirate) and English (Upside Down). You can change your current language by clicking at the bottom of the right column on your newsfeed.
– Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and CEO is red-green colour blind! This is the reason the Facebook logo is blue. “Blue is the richest colour for me. I can see all of blue,” said Zuckerberg in an interview with the New Yorker. The colour is apparently so popular that Facebook’s campus store even sells the colour in a nail varnish – very aptly named “Social Butterfly Blue”.
– Wanted Dead or Alive? Not quite but Facebook do have a “Bounty Hunter” program for bugs. Facebook offers cash rewards to security researchers who try to hack the system and then point out the flaws so that they can improve security. The largest cash reward to date was $33,500!
– Around 250 billion images have been uploaded to Facebook so far! The site estimated that around 350 million are uploaded every day….about 4,000 uploaded every second!
– Guess what? Zuckerberg doesn’t really like Twitter. Surprised? Even though he has a huge number of followers on Twitter (300,000), he has only ever tweeted 19 times – that’s one time in 2012 and the rest in 2009. Although Facebook far outsizes Twitter in terms of the number of users, the blog site does react better to breaking news, something which Facebook have counteracted by trending topics and hashtag keys.
– Facebook has now been estimated to have a value of $135 billion, but did you know that in 2006, Zuckerberg turned down the offer of $1 billion from Yahoo? He was just 22 at the time and owned 25% of the company.
– Barack Obama was famously quoted as saying at a 2011 event “I’m Barack Obama and I’m the guy who got Mark to wear a jacket and tie.” This is down to Zuckerberg’s infamously casual wardrobe, which he says saves him time getting ready in the morning. Whatever works!!
